Videos: DVDs in the library

Information on streaming videos and DVDs available to the Vol State community..

  Thigpen Library has a large collection of DVDs for both education and entertainment purposes.

DVDs can be sent to the library on any Vol State campus. Use Pioneer Search to find and request that a DVD be available for pickup at your campus library. 

Not all DVDs are available for holds and requests.

Search for DVDs

Find DVDs in the library by using the Advanced Search feature in Pioneer Search

  • Limit your search to "Inside the Library"
  • Select Content Type: Video
  • For the first Search Filter line add the title of your movie next to where it reads 'Any field contatins'

Selecting the link "Thigpen Library - browse DVDs" takes you to Pioneer Search and retireves a list of DVDs available in all campus libraries.

Use "Tweak my Results" to

  • change "Sort by" relevance, date, author, or title
  • limit the results by date, creator, or subject

DVDs: Accessibility Features

Older DVDs may not meet current accessibility standards.

  • Closed-Captioning feature is helpful for people with hearing impairments. Sub-titles are not the same as closed-captioned.
  • Audio description assists people with vision problems. Only newer DVDs have this feature, which is is identified as DVS or English Audio Description. 

 

DVDs: Public Performance Rights

Thigpen Library does not purchase Public Performance Rights (PPR) for DVDs.

DVDs from Thigpen Library cannot be used for public screenings or shown to groups outside of a scheduled class. Vol State Libraries will not be held liable for misuse of a DVD from its collection.

Exceptions

Thigpen Library does not have PPR for The Color of Fear but the DVD can be used for a diversity program.
