Who may borrow materials?

  • Vol State students: must be currently enrolled and have your student ID card
  • Vol State faculty and staff: employee ID card serves as library card
  • Community patrons: driver's license or state-issued ID required on your first visit

How many items may I check out and for how long?

  • Students: Maximum of 10 items; 5 books per subject for 2 weeks
  • Faculty/Staff: 10 items for 8 weeks; some items have shorter loan periods
  • Community Patrons: 5 items for 2 weeks
  • Popular DVDs: Maximum of 5 items for 2 weeks; no renewals

May I renew items?

  • Circulating collection books: 2 renewals; 2 weeks each, unless another patron has placed a hold on the item
  • Popular DVDs: no renewals
  • Reserve items: no renewals

What is the fine for an overdue item?

  • Reserve items: $1.00 per day; maximum fine $5.00.
  • Interlibrary loan items: variable; fines are assessed by lending library.

No fines are assessed for items in Thigpen Library's circulating print & DVD collections; however, replacement costs and  processing fees will be charged if items are lost or significantly damaged.

Where are books and other materials located?

Materials from the Gallatin campus may be requested for delivery to satellite campuses and to distance learners.

Use the links below to request an item through interlibrary loan or have materials sent to off-site campuses.

Thigpen Library - Gallatin

First Floor

  • New academic books, Graphic Novels, Children's Books, Travel
  • Graphing calculators, laptops (2-hour loan; library use only), and phone chargers are located behind the circulation ("ASK") desk
  • Textbooks on course reserve are located behind the circulation ("ASK") desk

Second Floor

  • Circulating collection of books
  • Leisure Collection (fiction published within the last few years)
  • DVDs
  • Print periodicals

Reference books are located on both floors. The second floor reference works are shelved in the circulating collections with locations as appropriate to their subject matter.
