Your Learning Commons: Writing & Speech

The Learning Commons offers the following services to support Vol State faculty: 

Classroom visits 

The Learning Commons staff will come to your classroom: 

• To show students how they can access academic support resources 

• To show students how they can make appointments for tutoring or coaching 

• To provide support for specific assignments or projects 

Workshops 

The Learning Commons staff offer workshops in person or virtually: 

• To support specific skills, assignments, or projects 

• To address academic coaching needs related to procrastination, time management, study skills, test preparation, test anxiety, etc. 

• To help with research and citation skills (in conjunction with the research librarians) 

Classroom Spaces 

The Learning Commons is a great place to bring your class. We provide: 

• Six different spaces to accommodate your needs

• Access to embedded tutoring 

• A low-stakes environment for required student/teacher conferences 

• A change of pace for students 

• A stigma-free way for students to meet tutors and access academic support services
